Matthew is the Music Director of Lunchbreak Opera which he founded in 2017 on graduating from King’s College London with 1st class music degree. At university Matthew was a choral scholar and studied voice with Michael Chance. He now works as a conductor and arranger in London, most notably as the Artistic Director of Brixton Chamber Orchestra – a dynamic and exciting new ensemble based in Lambeth. Matthew also directs Scherzo Ensemble (vocal consort of young soloists), Ensemble Trouvere (Medieval troup) and is choirmaster at St Thomas’ Fulham and The Centre for Young Musicians. Matthew studies conducting with Peter Ash and is embarking on ever larger musical projects. Opera conducting credits include Bastien und Bastienne, Die Fledermaus, Suor Angelica, Prima la Musica, Noye’s Fludde and in July 2019 Matthew will conduct The Barber of Seville. Matthew composes and arranges music in many different genres, including chamber reductions of opera scores for Lunchbreak Opera.
Originally from Essex, Thomas is a young and spirited opera director who studied vocal performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. His Assistant Director credits include working with Opera North, British Youth Opera, Blackheath Opera and Hampstead Garden Opera. Directing credits include Brent Opera West Hampstead (Martha 2017), Opera Integra (Orpheus in the Underworld 2018), Lunchbreak Opera (First the Music and then the Words 2018) as well as productions with his own company, Clockwork Opera (The Medium 2016, An Incomplete Education 2017). As well as directing, Thomas is also a writer and translator of libretti. His work to date includes the short opera Favela with music by Louise Kulbicki and a new English translation of Chabrier's 'Une Education Manquee' and Puccini's 'Gianni Schicchi'.
